Japanese Software Charts: Samurai Heroes Vs Vocaloid Heroine
The latest figures are in for the Japanese Software Chart (26th July - 1st August 2010, courtesy Media Create) and it seems the wait and hype for Capcom's latest Sengoku Basara game has paid off, with the PlayStation 3 version shooting to the top of the charts fighting off fierce competition from fanservice favourite Hatsune Miku.

1 Sengoku Basara 3 – Capcom (PS3) – 242,698 / NEW
2 Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2 – Sega (PSP) – 241,467 / NEW
3 Wii Party – Nintendo (Wii) – 82,713
4 Kamen Rider Battle: Ganbaride Card Battle Taisen – Bandai Namco (DS) – 64,268 / NEW
5 Sengoku Basara 3 – Capcom (Wii) – 49,821 / NEW
6 Metal Max 3 – Kadokawa Shoten (DS) – 46,954 / NEW
7 Inazuma Eleven 3: World Challenge!! Spark/Bomber – Level-5 (DS) – 34,049
8 Ys Vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga – Nihon Falcom (PSP) – 30,047 / NEW
9 Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2010 – Konami (PSP) – 22,132
10 Fire Emblem: Shin Monshou no Nazo Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu – Nintendo (DS) – 21,340

(Note: Chart position is first, then game name, publisher, format and sales for this week)

Sega's Project Diva 2 has also been highly anticipated but likely for different reasons – the cutesy female character Hatsune Miku is the apple of the eyes of many an anime fan in Japan, and has helped spearhead the popularity of the Vocaloid vocal technology. This PSP release amounts to a karaoke style game starring the green-haired idol, however.

It's a great week for new releases all round, with Metal Max 3, Ys Vs. Sora no Kiseki and Kamen Rider all hitting the Top 10 this week too. The Wii version of Sengoku Basara 3 also features at #5. Can the PS3 version hang on to the top spot, or does Hatsune Miku have legs to overtake these ancient warriors? We'll find out, next week.
