Nintendo Wins Case Against Wii Piracy Chip Retailers
Nintendo has been going for the throat of 11 retailers that have allegedly been selling illegal piracy chips and cartridges for its Wii and DS consoles. Today, its efforts have paid off as the Hague District Court has upheld the company's claim, rejecting the retailers' counter-claim that Nintendo was engaging in unfair competition.

Nintendo said in a statement that it "welcomes the decision by the Hague District Court to uphold its claim that 11 online retailers operating in the Netherlands have acted unlawfully vis-à-vis Nintendo by importing and selling game copiers for use with Nintendo DS and mod chips for use with Nintendo Wii.

"Nintendo takes this action not only for the company's sake, but in the interests of its partners who spend time and money legitimately developing software for Nintendo videogame consoles and systems, and customers who expect the highest standards and integrity from products bearing the Nintendo name."

Now begins the debate as to whether products like the R4 Magicard are really the causes of piracy, or whether the problem is the intent of the user who buys it. What do you think? Let us know in the comments box below.

Personally, I'm not really for or against piracy, it's an issue for content/console producer.

However, I do resent people getting something for free that I've paid for...

Ive said before, i used to live in piracy land for the PSone, not something i was proud of and i was embarrassed then, what i found was that having all psone games at my disposal i didnt want to play them the collection of games became more important than playing them, the fact i put no value on them meant i did want to play, id play maybe 10-15 mins and get bored, now i purcahse all my games and the fact i placed some of my money into them makes me want to play and finish them even the crap ones lol, but i do own an R4 type card but i dont play games i use it for homebrew its a sad fact that 90% of these cards sold are for piracy if they concentrated on making homebrew solutions that couldnt play games maybe they would be better for everyone, or maybe nintendo sould open then platform to small devs

Sadly, Nintendo have absolutely no intentions of allowing homebrew on their consoles, they consider it to be on par with piracy. I asked about it on one of the Wii homebrew message boards, seeing if anyone had tried to approach Nintendo.

Despite making it clear that they would self-police themselves, making sure that the Homebrew programs would not be exploited for piracy and reporting anyone that did; Nintendo's immediate response was to set lawyers upon the people that had approached them, they wanted to sue them out of existence rather than attempt to co-exist.
