Nintendo has been going for the throat of 11 retailers that have allegedly been selling illegal piracy chips and cartridges for its Wii and DS consoles. Today, its efforts have paid off as the Hague District Court has upheld the company's claim, rejecting the retailers' counter-claim that Nintendo was engaging in unfair competition.Nintendo said in a statement that it "welcomes the decision by the Hague District Court to uphold its claim that 11 online retailers operating in the Netherlands have acted unlawfully vis-à-vis Nintendo by importing and selling game copiers for use with Nintendo DS and mod chips for use with Nintendo Wii.
"Nintendo takes this action not only for the company's sake, but in the interests of its partners who spend time and money legitimately developing software for Nintendo videogame consoles and systems, and customers who expect the highest standards and integrity from products bearing the Nintendo name."
Now begins the debate as to whether products like the R4 Magicard are really the causes of piracy, or whether the problem is the intent of the user who buys it. What do you think? Let us know in the comments box below.
