Crush 40, the rock duo responsible for a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog theme songs, will be attending the fan-led Summer of Sonic convention next month. The London event, due to take place on 7th August, will stage the group's very first live performance in the West. The double-act - consisting of American rock singer Johnny Gioeli, and popular Sega musician Jun Senoue - were originally contacted to attend for a 2011 showing to coincide with Sonic the Hedgehog's 20th Anniversary. But the two were so enthused about the idea that arrangements were made to attend this year instead.
Crush 40 is known for title tracks to various Sonic games, including
Open Your Heart (
Sonic Adventure),
Live & Learn (
Sonic Adventure 2),
Sonic Heroes,
I Am... All of Me (
Shadow the Hedgehog) and
Knight of the Wind (
Sonic and the Black Knight). Senoue has composed soundtracks to multiple Sega games in the past, including
Sonic 3 and
Sonic & Knuckles and
Daytona USA. Gioeli is also the frontman for German rock band Axel Rudi Pell.
Previously, the band has only performed live once - at the Tokyo Game Show in 2008.
Along with the band's performance, a Q&A and a meet-and-greet, the Summer of Sonic convention - a collaboration event between the Sonic fan community and Sega Europe - will feature playable Sonic games, competitions, special guests from the comic books and other media, as well as all manner of other activities.
