Many people complained about Blizzard's plan to require users to display their real names on its forums. It seems that your complaints have been heard, as Blizzard is no longer thinking of doing it.Company cofounder and CEO Mike Morhaime announced that the studio has been "constantly monitoring the feedback you've given us," and as a result decided that "real names will not be required for posting on official Blizzard forums."
"When we launch the new
StarCraft II forums, you will be posting by your
StarCraft II Battle.net character name + character code, not your real name. The upgraded
World of Warcraft forums with these new features will launch close to the release of
Cataclysm, and also will not require your real name," Morhaime revealed.
But the executive said that there are still intentions to use the RealID system in its upcoming games - apparently plans for the optional in-game service are "completely separate" from those that involved using forum members' real names. RealID, Morhaime added, will offer cross-game and cross-realm chat that will make Battle.net "a great place for players to stay connected to real-life friends and family."
Go thank this man for his benevolence
here.
