Metal Gear Solid Rising Series Planned
Metal Gear Solid Rising doesn't star Snake, or Big Boss. It stars Raiden. That makes it something of a spinoff, right? Not quite, says producer Shigenobu Matsuyama, who has revealed that the game will in fact be a branchoff series in its own right.

The developer featured on Enterbrain's Midnight Live 360 broadcast over the weekend (through Famitsu - via Andriasang), and spoke of the hack-and-slash title at length. Of particular note was the line; "MGS Rising is not a side story. We're aiming for two Metal Gear Solids, making a series out of another standard."

One has to wonder why, really. Luckily, Matsuyama explained this - the development team originally had an idea for a game where 'you could slice anything,' and Raiden was picked because of the fact he had a blade. That doesn't really answer why they didn't just make a new IP, but at least Rising will detail the events that transpired between Metal Gear Solid 2 and 4.

Tactical Espionage Action, now turned into a hack-and-slash game. Are you impressed? Let us know in the comments box below.

So it's not a spinoff, it's a branchoff? WTF??

No, I am not impressed at all. Bad enough they're wasting time on one needless game instead of remaking MG1 and 2, but making all Metal Gear games for the foreseeable future pointless fillers is inexcusable. Kojima needs to smack some heads.

Thing is Solidshnake, If kojima and co were to "remake" the original metal gear and metal gear 2: solid snake games it would kind of be like they were just throwing the old ones in the bin. :/ dont get me wrong, id love to see it! but i cant see them doing it.

To be fair, MGS1 was essentially a remake of Metal Gear. Fortunately Kojima had the foresight to change the storyline but it has the same gameplay elements and plot; traps in the floor, placing C4 on sections of wall, disabling the electric floor with remote-controlled missiles etc.
What annoys me is that suddenly the developers think we want to play as Raiden now. I much prefer Raiden as a wuss in MGS2 than Raiden as an emo in MGS4.
