Metal Gear Solid Rising doesn't star Snake, or Big Boss. It stars Raiden. That makes it something of a spinoff, right? Not quite, says producer Shigenobu Matsuyama, who has revealed that the game will in fact be a branchoff series in its own right. The developer featured on Enterbrain's Midnight Live 360 broadcast over the weekend (through
Famitsu - via
Andriasang), and spoke of the hack-and-slash title at length. Of particular note was the line; "
MGS Rising is not a side story. We're aiming for two
Metal Gear Solids, making a series out of another standard."
One has to wonder why, really. Luckily, Matsuyama explained this - the development team originally had an idea for a game where 'you could slice anything,' and Raiden was picked because of the fact he had a blade. That doesn't really answer why they didn't just make a new IP, but at least Rising will detail the events that transpired between
Metal Gear Solid 2 and
4.
Tactical Espionage Action, now turned into a hack-and-slash game. Are you impressed? Let us know in the comments box below.
