Onlive, the cloud-based gaming platform that was announced last year, has recently launched in the US, revealing a glimpse of the service's pricing options ahead of its UK launch in 2011.At present, there are three options available to those wanting to play a game from the cloud. You can pay for access to the game for up to three or five days, or you can opt to pay more for 'unlimited' access. That actually lasts until June 2013. So, not totally 'unlimited' then.
Not all games will have all access options available, and there's no unified pricing -
Batman: Arkham Asylum only offers three or five-day access at $4.99 and $6.99 respectively, with no 'unlimited' option, while
Assassin's Creed II only lets you purchase an 'unlimited' pass for $39.99.
To play any of these games, however, one needs to pay for an additional subscription to Onlive. If you don't pay the fee, you lose access to everything - even if you've paid for game access or have some time outstanding. Subscriptions are $14.95 a month.
