Nintendo kept this one quiet during its deluge of 3DS information - the upcoming handheld will enable users to install physical media games into the system's internal memory. The Nikkei financial newspaper noted that the 3DS is capable of containing several full-size games through software install, with the ability to select any of these at will via the system's main menu. This eliminates cartridge swapping, and negates the need to take a truckload of carts when on the move.
It's a very intriguing bullet point - one that makes you wonder why Nintendo omitted it from its press conference. Not that adding it in would have made it any more exciting, to be quite honest.
One interesting thing to note is that, should this functionality truly bring about 'no-swap' gaming, what will Nintendo aim to do about those who will buy a game, install it onto memory, then simply return it to the local store? The Nikkei didn't go into the workings of the installation system in great detail, so hopefully Nintendo has a plan and will clarify that for us soon.
