We got a little excited at the fact that peace and love may have descended into the notoriously bitchy world of console exclusives by way of ultra-violent Gear of War. We read that 'Drake joins Gears of War 3"Obviously we thought some earth-shattering marriage of PS3-exclusive Uncharted would be joining Gears. Clouds would part. Lion would lay with lamb. Gamers would finally get treated respectfully. The industry would mature.
Nope.
What is happening is that "Grammy Nominated Recording Artist 'Drake' (aka, "The new face of hip-hop") is to voice brings Jace Stratton in
Gears 3.
Drake apparently joins slightly more ancient granddaddy of
Hip-Hop, Ice-T in voicing the game.
Says the blurb, “Jace is a central character in the comic books, so he was an obvious choice as a character we wanted to bring into the third game,” said Epic Executive Producer Rod Fergusson. “When we began casting for the role, ‘So Far Gone’ had just released and Drake’s combination of heart and grit was just what we were looking for. Rather than search for somebody who sounded like him, it was clear that we should approach him directly… fortunately he turned out to be a huge fan."
We totally believe that. Really we do. Nothing whatsoever to do with cross-media and demographic appeal at all.
