Future Publishing CEO Jumps Ship

Moves to Murdoch

Posted by Staff
Future Publishing has lost its CEO Robert Price and long-time staffer to Rupert Murdoch's 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment where he takes the role of UK Managing Director.

The move comes as Future attempts to make the transition from dominance of the ailing video games magazine market into online success - in the face of stiff competition from both the blogosphere and other non-paper-based organisations.

Price joined the Bath-based specialist publisher in 1998 as one of its many "Associate Publishers" - at first in the "Sports and Entertainment Division". He became Publishing Director for the "Entertainment & Games" division before rising to managing director and then CEO.

No information is available regarding his replacement - although an internal appointment is widely expected. Price will be dealing with film, DVD and Blu-ray releases.

Do a straw poll and see. I'm aware of at least one other reasonably high profile departure in the near future as well.

Wear is COO so I cant see him going to Games. Binns is just a Publishing Director so he could go with Price, wouldnt surprise me.

Wear will be CEO and then all hell will break loose! Glad I left the company when I did. Love Future to bits and a great place to work but the internal issues and mag purchases were and still are a nightmare.

I wish them the very best and I hope they get someone in from outside to give the business a fresh look.

Blimey. Simon's been there for quite some time too. Still, I can't say I like to be working in games mag publishing. Back in my day we were all lovely to each other all the time and there was never, ever any politics ever.

Ahem.

Cheers

Well I hope he doesnt get it.....hes the worst thing at Future IMO. They will do well to see the back of him and get in some fresh blood from out side.

He's been at Future all his career, which is his main weakness. No outside experience, only what he has learnt at Future so very narrow minded view on things....his way or the highway.

Future plc

Appointment of UK CEO and resignation of non-executive Director

Future, the special-interest media group, announces that after a rigorous selection process by recruitment experts Spencer Stuart, it has appointed Mark Wood as Chief Executive of its UK business, with effect from 31 August 2010.

Mark Wood joined Future plc's Board as a non-executive director in April 2009 and he will now step down from the Board, with effect from 30 August 2010.

Mark Wood was Chief Executive of ITN from 2003 to 2009, where he created and built substantial new digital media businesses. He joined ITN from Reuters, where he rose from award-winning journalist to Editor-in-Chief. He was in charge of all Reuters news and television businesses, served on the Reuters plc Board and was responsible for Reuters strategic media alliances and investments. Since leaving ITN he has been involved in a number of digital start-ups and has been advising two national newspaper groups on internet and iPad strategies.

Stevie Spring, Future's Group Chief Executive, said:

"I am thrilled with this new appointment to the executive team. Mark's outstanding track record in the media bridges both the commercial and the editorial and he has a wealth of experience: in broadcast, print and online. Content creation and curation is at the heart of Future's business and Mark is one of the UK's most experienced and talented leaders of content-focused companies."

Mark Wood said:

"I am delighted to be joining the executive team at Future. Under Stevie Spring, Future has become a highly innovative and dynamic business with an impressive track record in growing digital revenues alongside the production of a fantastic range of successful print titles. I relish the opportunity to play a bigger part in the achievement of the company's objectives in a rapidly changing media market. I'm looking forward very much to leading the UK team through the next phase of its development."

Yes Wear sure has gone and what an amazing place to be working now! Best thing to happen to Future. Shame Simon Wear didn't go sooner. He was convinced the Chief Exec position was his to be had at Future. Have heard he his set up his own business... SHIFT... people beware!!
