Rumours that SEGA may re-release a bunch of their Dreamcast classics via digital distribution exploded recently when a snapshot of the Xbox 360's Live Arcade system revealed an entry for skate-tagging action game Jet Set Radio. Today, a fresh image suggests Shenmue II could be released too.The new image, captured by
CVG and recorded by a
Youtube user, shows a game titled '
Project Berkley II' alongside an icon displaying
Shenmue protagonist Ryo Hazuki. The codename could be a means to throw potential leakers off the scent, but with the odd proportions of Hazuki's head in the icon this could very well be a shop job.
Shenmue is an epic story-based action game that was created by SEGA legend Yu Suzuki - it was his last high-profile game, in fact. Costing several million dollars to develop, the Dreamcast's cult status meant that the first game in the series didn't sell enough to justify continuing.
Shenmue II - a sequel that combined chapters 2, 3 and 4 out of a rumoured 16-chapter story - was the last entry in the Ryo Hazuki saga. Fans have been asking for a third game ever since. Although the high costs of production has led SEGA to rule out a sequel, it does apparently
think of the game with fondness.
