It has been reported that IBM is considering selling the GameCube graphical heart, the Gecko, as a stand-alone product. The processor was initially designed for GameCube alone but IBM believe there could be a market for the units on their own.
Speaking about the chip’s architecture at the processor conference Hit Chips, an annual event held at Stanford University, Peter Sandon of IBM said Big Blue has every right to sell the chip.
The powerful Gecko processor may well be incorporated into a 3D card for the PC and could provide serious competition to market leaders nVidia. Competition is at the heart of technological development and Nintendo cross-platform compatibility may become a ‘project reality’.
