You might have read that Marvel vs Capcom 3 is coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3. But there were many other announcements made at the publisher's Captivate 2010 event in Hawaii, including a Western release of Ōkamiden, Dead Rising 2 prologues and Bionic Commandos.Ōkamiden is the bite-sized sequel to the Wii and PlayStation 2 cult hit
Ōkami, and will hit the Nintendo DS in 2011. It'll follow the adventures of sun god Chibiterasu, tasked with protecting the world with a magic paintbrush. As special moves are executed by painting symbols, the DS' touch screen should make for an intuitive experience.
The DS will also see a Western release of
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, the latest from the original director of the
Phoenix Wright games. You play as the ghost of a murder victim, Sissel, who has to piece together the events surrounding his death while using possession powers to influence other people's lives. We love the look of this, and it's heading for Nintendo's handheld in the Winter.
Dead Rising 2 got some love, with Capcom confirming a co-operative mode for the game when it hits later this year. The company also revealed a prologue chapter called
Case Zero, that will be released on Xbox Live (sorry PS3 fans, it's an exclusive) ahead of the retail game's launch. Set two years after the events of the original Dead Rising, you get to learn more about the backstory to the series as you lead Chuck Greene and his daughter through the desert town of Small Creek. Oh, and you get to mash up zombies too. Hope the little kid doesn't see all the violence, might turn her into a killer.
Capcom also announced a sequel to its popular
Bionic Commando remake, with
Rearmed 2 hitting Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in the Spring next year. A big change in this game is the fact that Nathan Spencer can jump! Hooray! He'll be saving the world from the clutches of the tech-savvy General Sabio, who plans to launch a missile attack.
Sengoku Basara, Capcom's Japanese answer to Koei's Chinese
Dynasty Warriors, will be seeing a new entry in the series come Autumn with
Samurai Heroes hitting the PlayStation 3 and Wii. The producer of
Devil May Cry 4, Hiroyuki Kobayashi, will be leading development duties on the title.
Plenty of DLC was confirmed too, and with
Super Street Fighter IV round the corner this news couldn't come at a better time. The fighting franchise gets a Tournament Mode that allows players to challenge one another online for control of persistent championship titles. And unlike most Capcom DLC these days, it's totally free! Bonus! It'll be hitting North America in June, while new costume packs will be arriving late April.
Lost Planet 2 map packs and
Moto GP 09/10 circuits round off the mountain of announcements made at Captivate 2010. What are you looking forward to? Speak out in the comments box below.
