TDG Research adds to the pile of "online consoles" studies with its latest report, which states that Sony's PlayStation 3 has a more connected userbase than its rivals. The research finds that four in every five, or 78 per cent of PS3 owners who also have access to a high-speed broadband connection, take advantage of the console's online service. This is compared to 73 per cent of Xbox 360 owners and 54 per cent of Wii users.
Of course, it's difficult to say exactly how representative of gamers the survey actually is. The US study polls just over 2,000 adult broadband users, but it's unclear how many of those are actually console owners and how broad a cross-section of society the survey takes in.
The idea behind the findings is that, with the PS3's higher cost and perceived value as a result, consumers are more willing to take advantage of every function the console has. The fact that the PlayStation Network is free and that the system has built-in WiFi could also be a factor, naturally.
