1982 Asteroids World Record Destroyed
How good do you think you are at Asteroids? It's likely that John McAllister is better than you. The Seattle man appears to have smashed the all-time world record for the 1979 arcade classic.

After playing in his friend's basement in Hillsboro, Oregon for 58 straight hours, McAllister Game Over'd with a score of 41,338,740 points. According to high-score database Twin Galaxies, the previous world record is 41,336,440 points - set way back in November 1982.

KGW reports that McAllister will take a drugs test and submit recorded evidence of his marathon playthrough, just to make sure he hasn't been cheating. High scores are serious business, after all.

An elated and quite obviously knackered McAllister described his plight to the local news site, stating, "[The Asteroids high score record is] basically considered a Holy Grail... It was a title that a lot of people would want, and I wanted it."

Watch a video of his conquest below. We (preliminarily) salute you, John McAllister.
