Conservatives to Support Game Tax Breaks in First Budget
Tories' approval means all three parties now pledge financial support.
The Conservative Party has announced that it plans to offer tax breaks to the UK games industry in its "first budget" if elected into government, making it the last of the three major political parties to offer support.
The party's spokesperson for the games industry, Ed Vaizey, told Develop that the Tories would initiate tax breaks within its first term of office.
Vaizey's comments followed an attendance of the ELSPA Question Time event in London last night, where he would not commit to an answer on the subject when it was raised to him several times. Labour MP Tom Watson accused the Conservative official of "dithering" on the matter.
Liberal Democrat's Don Foster was also in attendance, and re-affirmed his party's full support for tax breaks for the UK gaming industry. The party publicly threw its weight behind development relief earlier this month, earning praise from TIGA. The Labour Government then pledged a financial support system similar to the UK film in its Budget last week.
