A group of former Pandemic staff have banded together and established a new gaming studio called, aptly, Downsized Games. Consisting of Manny Vega, Zach Haefner and Ariel Tal, the developer's first title is an iPhone game called BulletTrain. And in many ways, it seems that the team is still a little bit sore at having been made redundant back in November 2009, when publisher
EA decided to shrink Pandemic in order to cut costs. While the Pandemic brand lives on, the development team behind
Mercenaries,
Destroy All Humans and Full Spectrum Warrior certainly isn't as it was before.
Downsized Games has even incorporated Electronic Arts into
BulletTrain's story. Here's an excerpt; "You used to run a small shipping company on your home planet of Glendon-19 but a hostile takeover by Elaborate Acquisitions, your local B-rail corporation, has left you out on the streets.
"With the help of your best driver, Atal, you scrape together your last credits and outfit your transport ship/bedroom with enough weaponry to take down the corporations B-rails. It’s time to hand out the pink-slips, in blood.
BulletTrain!!!!!!!!!!!"
Is Downsized's aim to ultimately destroy EA? We may have quite the David and Goliath war going on here soon enough. Check out the
studio's website here.
