Infinity Ward's community manager for Modern Warfare 2, Robert Bowling, has stated that we're not to expect any locally-playable multiplayer Spec Ops DLC any time soon because more people are playing online multiplayer.Saying that 'Spec Ops
was great', He explains to
GamesRadar that, "we looked at the numbers and we have twenty-five million unique players in
Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer... we just really wanted to make sure that we were focusing our efforts on getting the most content to the biggest part of our audience that’s playing every day. And that just happens to be multiplayer."
We're not entirely certain how IW is assessing how many of the 25 million players are sharing Spec Ops missions with their pals in the privacy of their own homes. It does, however, make a great deal of sense commercially to concentrate on the online multiplayer.
Bowling also points out that people moaning about paying £10 for five maps is to be expected, because people just like to moan: "You know players will always react to any price that’s announced, but I think from a content standpoint, anyone who is playing
Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer and is dedicating a lot of hours to it is definitely going to get their money’s worth from this map pack."
In terms of the feeling within Infinity Ward as the law suit between Activision Blizzard and former IW execs Jason West and Vincent Zampella, Mr Bowling explains "Right now, you know, we’re all focused on getting this DLC out, and that’s great for us, I mean it’s business as usual, which is the best thing that can happen at a time like this. That’s where our focus always wants to be, and that’s where it is right now. Things are good when we’re making games we love for people who love to play them."
