Warner Bros. has announced plans to open a new studio in Montreal focused on producing games based on DC Comics - sorry, 'DC Entertainment' - properties. The opening of the studio was
confirmed at a press conference, while Warner Interactive’s president Martin Tremblay told
GameFocus that the new studio's efforts will be geared towards DC franchises.
According to Warners, the studio is expected to employ some 300 people by 2015.
Warner Bros. has been ramping up its gaming efforts recently. It previously acquired Traveller's Tales (of LEGO games fame), the majority stake in
Rocksteady (
Batman: Arkham Asylum) and a
chunk of Midway. The new studio marks Warner's first move to put together a developer from scratch.
DC, meanwhile, has recently been restructured as DC Entertainment, a company geared toward better exploiting the comics company's properties across multiple media formats.
DC properties including
Wonder Woman,
Batman,
Superman,
Green Lantern,
Jonah Hex,
The Losers and
Green Arrow are tied to film projects in various stages of development at the moment. Game tie-ins to some of those properties would not be all that unexpected...
