*** UPDATEThis won't surprise any seasoned video game news addicts but SCEE has issued a comment: "We haven’t officially announced a release date for GT5."*** END UPDATEI think we've been waiting long enough for Gran Turismo 5, don't you? So will we actually be seeing it this year? 'Yes', says Sony. 'When, then?', is our reply. Turns out, if GDC murmurs are to be believed, the answer is October. An
Italian gaming site had the sheer audacity to ask a Sony rep at the US developer conference last week about
GT5, to which it was said the company is gunning for a launch in October.
Apparently it sits nicely with a previously announced Autumn release window by European exec James Armstrong, according to
GTPlanet.
Sony's got some big plans for 2010, including a 3D TV push over the Summer and a Spring full of PS3 blockbusters. It would make sense to release
Gran Turismo 5 in the Autumn to both spread the love a bit and maybe take advantage of new technologies.
Although can you imagine the extra time Polyphony Digital would need to add 3D to the game? Maybe the studio doesn't need any more distractions.
