More than a thousand fans turned up at HMV's Oxford Street superstore in London to enjoy the official launch of Final Fantasy XIII last night - and enjoy the company of the game's producer Yoshinori Kitase and art director Isamu Kamikokuryo. The Square Enix developers arrived to meet and greet the public at 6pm, signing copies of the game as well as all kinds of memorabilia. Many fans arrived in cosplay, and the first 50 of those received a four-disc
Final Fantasy XIII soundtrack, which Kitase-san and Kamikokuryo-san happily scribbled on.
SPOnG has already sat down and had a good chat with Yoshinori Kitase and
FFXIII director Motomu Toriyama, click here to read it.
Orderly queues were hustled past the producer and art director following an introduction by MC Alex Zane, who helped gear up the crowd with a
Final Fantasy XIII related quiz. The winner of the contest, Terri, went home with a limited edition Xbox 360 bundle pack.
SPOnG met with the very first people in the queue - Pete and Becky from Manchester, who has come dressed as Zell from
Final Fantasy VIII and Yuna from
Final Fantasy X respectively. They were both incredibly excited to be the first people to see some of their RPG heroes - Kitase-san has also worked on
Final Fantasy VII and
VIII in the past.
Fun times were had by all, and even beyond the 7.30pm closing time Square Enix was kind enough to still let some late-comers have a chance to get a sign and a handshake. Kitase-san and Kamikokuryo-san can go back to their hotel room and take a good hard-earned wrist-rest now. Take a look at the photos in our gallery for more, including some awesome Chocobo cosplay.
Final Fantasy XIII is available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and is available right now.
