Random House to Write Video Game Stories
Book publisher Random House has announced that it intends to become much more involved with the games industry than it currently is, establishing a new group dedicated to writing original stories for computer games and working with developers on existing IP.

The first project from the new IP Creation and Development Group will be a collaboration with Stardock to write the story to the upcoming strategy game Elemental: War of Magic. A spinoff novel based on the game called Elemental: Destiny's Embers will also be published later this year.

President of Random House Publishing Group, Gina Centrello, said; "After more than eighty years, Random House is now taking our storytelling expertise one step further. We are providing a valuable service to other media companies in a competitive entertainment market, where success increasingly depends on the quality of your story."

With the need to tell a good story a high priority with many computer games these days, it seems that Random House may be able to provide some interesting angles over the usual gaming cliches. It will be interesting to see what deals come from this.
