Citizens Approve Lara Croft Way
Back in December last year citizens of Derby were asked to choose between names such as Mercian Way, Griffon Way, Merlin Way and Lara Croft Way for a new road in the city's new £36.2m inner ring road system. They've chosen Lara Croft Way.

Today the BBC reports that "More than 27,000 people took part in the vote to name the Osmaston Road to Burton Road stretch of the new route, with 89% opting for the winner.

"A separate stretch of road will be called Mercian Way as a tribute to local soldiers."

Why Lara Croft Way? Why does the Tomb Raider star get her own road? Simple, the original Lara was created for by Core Design, which was based in Derby.

Councillor Lucy Care, cabinet member for planning and transportation, states, "The vote really captured the imagination of people from across the world and, despite my lack of gaming knowledge, I accept that a majority of 89% for Lara Croft is too overwhelming to ignore.

"(Lara) was created in Derby and deserves to stand alongside some of the more traditional icons of the city."

Video games, eh? Just for kids aren't they?

The key word in that sentence is "separate".
