Ubisoft: Success Is Crucial For Red Steel 2
OK, so Red Steel wasn't so hot. That didn't stop Ubisoft from giving the Wii action game another go, and all signs are pointing to Red Steel 2 being pretty good this time around. Of course, failure is not an option for the Paris developers.

"It was clear from the beginning we had to succeed. It was absolutely crucial. It was obvious that, if Red Steel 2 came out and it was not well-received by the fans, we were done," said creative director Jason Vandenberghe in a recent interview. "There would be no Red Steel 3."

Naturally, getting two strikes won't even allow Ubisoft an attempt for a third, with Vendenberghe acknowledging that Red Steel 2 is coming hot on the heels of an underwhelming title. "There would be no point in continuing that: once is an offense, twice is a pattern."

Despite this, the creative director said that such pressure helped him keep the team focused on nothing but quality gameplay, and to maintain a low profile to avoid over-hyping the game and getting distracted. It's an admirable way of tackling a problem.

Red Steel 2 hits the Wii on the 26th March, are you looking forward to it?

How is RED STEEL, a million+ selling title "underperforming"?

Owh, that's simple, Ubisoft is a 3rd Party Excuse Maker. This whole thing is actually them setting up that Red Steel 2 will be a "failure" no matter what it will sell. Then they will blame Wii-gamers for "not getting it" and blame Nintendo for making such darn good games they can't compete with (even if Nintendo did sent Retro Studio's to explain Motion Plus to them). Afterwards they can start convincing to their stockholders and investors that with Arc/Natal they will magically find the secret formula to grasping "motion controlled" games.

Nintendo is damned either way.

Let's call it 'underwhelming', then. We were trying to be polite. ;)

@OptimusP Yes, and they'll market it w/ the combined power of a wet paper bag and a corpulent octogenarian running back to back marathons, which is to say, none at all.

If the first Red Steel sucked (and it did) why risk no one buying a sequel? just leave it alone, move on.

and they're releasing it in march along with Final Fantasy XIII and God of War III, it's like they want to fail.
