Sega spent its time at Japan's annual AOU Amusement Expo to announce a new arcade revision of Virtua Fighter 5. Subtitled 'Final Showdown', there's severe lack of details (save for the teaser trailer, below), but director Daiichi Katagiri says "we will be going against your expectations -- in a good way!"
Impress Watch covered the arcade expo in Tokyo (via Andriasang) and quoted Katagiri as to what fans should expect; "Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown will of course have skill additions and renewals. But we're also rethinking and reworking all areas of the gameplay systems.
"As for items, we won't be stopping at just more of the additions we've had until now, but will be trying out new things. We're in full production with the aim of creating what can be called, in all ways, the ultimate form of Virtua Fighter 5."
Exciting, right? Except for the fact that, like the previous Virtua Fighter 5 R, we'll never see it outside of Japan. But those who have spent an ice age building your custom fighter and gaining items, don't fret - anything you've gained in VF5 R will be carried over to Final Showdown. Sega has provided a compatibility list for reference.
