WiiWare Demos Dead: Nintendo Looking at Resurrection?
Popular trial service could return depending on performance.
We knew it was going to end. We just didn't know how heavy our hearts would be when it did end. Nintendo struck off the WiiWare Demos section of its Shop Channel at the end of January, fulfilling its November announcement that the trial service would be for a limited time only. But it might return.
Joystiq asked the company for an explanation of the removal of the Demos section. A Nintendo representative said that “from the start, the demo program was always planned to be available for a limited time on a trial basis.”
“We're looking at our results and deciding our next steps,” the rep said of any chances of the Demos area coming back for another run. Those results analysed could be simply be the popularity of such trials, which included Pokemon Rumble, BIT.TRIP BEAT and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A Darklord.
More likely checked will be the demo-to-purchase ratio from WiiWare users. If Nintendo can see that putting the service online will net it more online cash, then you can bet your lucky penny that the Demos area will return.
