We're well and truly in financial season this week, with Konami releasing a report of its performance for the last nine months ending 31st December 2009. Unfortunately, it makes for some painful reading as net revenue dropped 18.4 per cent over the same period in 2008.Net revenue for the period was 190.93 million Yen (or $2.1m), compared to 234.01 million ($2.5m) the year before. Operating income slumped as well, from 34.7 million ($382,560) to 17.1 million ($298,977), representing a whopping 50% decrease.
The company hasn't exactly had the best year when it comes to its game releases, which is likely the reason for the drop. Without any sure-fire sellers like
Metal Gear Solid, and interest in its
Pro Evolution Soccer series waning, Konami didn't seem to be in the limelight too much in 2009.
2010 looks to serve the Japanese company better, with
Metal Gear Solid Rising and
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker set to rejuvenate interest, along with a sequel to
Ninety-Nine Nights.
