Sony Studio Liverpool Staff to Be Cut in Half
Sony's Liverpool Studio - previously Psygnosis, currently WipEout devs - will see it's "headcount" halved if news from Develop is anything to go on.

The magazine quotes one anonymous staffer at the studio stating, "around half us may be gone".

This follows news on Friday that SCEE would “cease immediately” a number of projects at the studio, "as part of a comprehensive restructuring operation".

An official statement from SCEE stated, however, that, "Our North West Studio Group has been, and will continue to be, a vital cog in the WWS (Wordl Wide Studios) family, with a history of producing genre defining games such as MotorStorm, WipEout, Formula 1 and WRC."

We're calling our people in the know for more inside info.

Sony suck balls*. This studio has such a massive heritage and talent; they shouldn't mess with it. But as ever with Sony it's probably not making quite enough money just at the moment so they'll vomit on it.

* Billiard balls, ping pong balls, whatever. Sony sucks 'em.

Well, that's no good at all. Studio Liverpool is responsible for the Wipeout series, and messing with that is just asking for trouble. =(

Very sad times. The newer Wipeouts never seemed to have the marketing push they deserved, and as a result some seriously talented and passionate devs are paying the price. Sales don't rely on amazing quality alone they rely on half decent marketing and half decent quality. If a game isn't backed-up, what's the point of making it and then moaning when it doesn't sell? Ah well, all good things come to an end. I just hope the good folk turfed-out land on their feet.
