Nintendo DS owners will be seeing a some of Pokémon games hit the handheld in Japan later this year. Here's the surprise though – this series is “entirely new”, and will aim to reinvent the franchise.The Pokémon Company (via
Kotaku) made a special announcement on its official website, revealing its intentions to reboot the
Pocket Monster series. The formula for the
Pokémon games hasn't changed since the Japanese 1996 Game Boy original, with every adventure since offering incremental and updated features at best.
“New Pokémon”, brand new features and refreshed gameplay functions will be present in the new games, according to the statement. It will take the place of the core RPG series, that was last explored in
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl back in 2007 (2006 in Japan).
