Wii price cut doesn't help

Nintendo DS Causes US Profit Squeeze
Nintendo's price cutting of the Wii plus a downturn on DS software selling has resulted in a 23% fall in quarterly profit in the USA.

This is in line with the companies own forecast for this financial year to see its first annual profit decline in four years, says Reuters.
The report also states that "Nintendo maintained its operating profit forecast of 370 billion yen (2.5 billion pounds) for the year to March."

To give that a little more perspective, that's "a third below its 555.26 billion yen profit a year earlier".

And let's finish this off with some witty banter from a Mr Kazutaka Oshima, president of Rakuten Investment Management. Commenting on Nintendo's position, he says: "Apparently, its game gear still has steam left in them."

See what he did there? We bet he didn't.
