Apple unveiled its new touch-screen tablet device last night, and Electronic Arts appeared during the presentation to demonstrate its gaming capabilities.
EA executive Travis Boatman took to the stage to showcase an iPad (yes, that's its name) version of Need For Speed Shift, which took advantage of the extra horsepower from the device's custom-built 'A4' chip.
The game's demo was markedly different than its iPhone counterpart by adding improved features thanks to the extra screen space – tapping the rear view mirror would let players see what's behind them, while tapping the car changed the camera view to the driver's seat.
While this particular game was 'iPad-enhanced', Apple confirmed that almost all iPhone apps created for its smartphone would be compatible with the tablet, offering a resized view to blow up apps in fullscreen. The iPhone's Facebook App was used to demonstrate this, but no doubt games would be the ones to benefit most from this feature.
Although Boatman was off the stage almost as soon as he stepped on, he said that EA fully supported the platform and promised to show off more of the publisher's iPad offerings soon.
