Capcom and Microsoft have announced a special partnership in Japan that will see a Monster Hunter game appear on the Xbox 360.

Monster Hunter Frontier was announced earlier today in Tokyo at an Xbox Japan event, and is a port/update of the beast-catching game that hit the PC way back in Summer 2007. Famitsu has some screenshots, and it's looking decidedly like a 2007 MMO game.

But, Japan loves its Monster Hunter and MMOs seem to be the big console thing this year (with Sony seeing two on the PS3 this year), so combine those factors and you may have a winner. A Beta test will be going live in Japan this May, with an aim to begin the service in the Summer. A monthly subscription of ¥1,400 (£9.70) will be required after purchasing the game.

It's nice to see that Microsoft is still kicking about to try and make a dent in the Japanese market. It would just be boring if it quit now, after all. Will Monster Hunter make a difference for the Xbox 360's fortunes? Let us know your thoughts in the forum.
