Following news that Metroid Prime: Trilogy on the Wii has been discontinued, Nintendo has released a statement that reaffirms the 2010 release of Samus' next adventure, Other M.Says Nintendo, via
Wired; “Nintendo's
Metroid Prime: Trilogy is the ultimate collector's edition experience for fans of the
Metroid Prime series, combining all three critically acclaimed games on one disc with Wii motion controls. Copies of the game are currently available at major retailers nationwide.
“The next highly anticipated offering in the
Metroid franchise is
Metroid: Other M, which will be available this year.”
The company is not usually so forward with these kinds of press statements, opting to keep most confirmation announcements for much larger events. It also means that, with
Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the next
Legend of Zelda title also due in 2010, the Nintendo faithful are in for a good year.
Nintendo has been at odds to maintain its casual audience momentum while doing good by its 'hardcore' followers. With
New Super Mario Bros. Wii filling a huge void over Christmas, 2010 could be the year the company pushes a little harder to satisfy its franchise fans.
