Nintendo is getting its annual pounding from Greenpeace today, as the organisation's survey of electronics companies once again names the Japanese manufacturer the most environmentally unfriendly. The company scored a paltry 1.4 out of 10 after taking its environmental policies into consideration – with its increase of e-waste and greenhouse gas emissions earning them a big fat zero on those categories.
PVC-free internal wiring, monitoring of harmful chemicals, disclosure of CO2 emissions and the low power of the DSi AC adaptor saved Nintendo from being awarded an even lower score, but ultimately it still ranked at the bottom of the table.
In comparison, Microsoft earned a score of 2.4, leaving it only one place above Nintendo – while Sony emerged the most green of the three hardware manufacturers in 7th place with 5.1. The score was awarded for greenhouse gas reduction, an increase of the use of renewable energy and recycled plastics.
