Final Fantasy XIV To Challenge World Of Warcraft
Continuing his extended interview with MCV and Develop (which has been re-published about five times now), Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada expanded on comments regarding upcoming MMO Final Fantasy XIV, stating that he sees the game as a serious competitor against World of Warcraft.

You’ll remember that yesterday we reported he said, “In our first MMO we didn’t set up the transaction model that well. We thought that it would be a benefit for users, but that we wouldn’t have to charge. We soon learnt that there are a lot of people who want that kind of model, so we would like to introduce more pay-as-you-use items into the game.”

Turns out looking towards games like World of Warcraft is resulting in more than just adopting conventions that have been cemented by the Blizzard MMO. The Square Enix head honcho has his eyes on the prize; “WoW is a tough competitor, but whether you are talking about EverQuest, Ultima or Lineage there has never been a company that has a continuously successful number one and two MMO.”

So, will FFXIV be a serious rival to the online RPG throne, Wada? “Yes, but the flipside is that they [Blizzard and World of Warcraft] are a tough competition.”
