The weekly Japanese software charts are in from Media Create, thanks to Gpara, and the Top 10 is almost completely covered in Nintendo product. Professor Layton’s newest adventure, Layton Kyouju no Majin no Fue, is the big winner this week with sales breaking the 300,000 mark. The DS story-puzzler sold multiples of the second highest ranked game,
Tomodachi Collection, and beat off a somewhat subdued competition in the form of new releases, with railroad sim (with the longest name in the world)
Momotaro Dentetsu 2010: Sengoku Ishin no Hero Daishuugou! no Maki only hitting #5 with 44,000 units sold. The only other new entry that came even close was Cave shooter
Mushihimesama Futari Ver. 1.5 at #11.
Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver are still hanging in there in joint-third place with 55,000 more copies sold, and
Wii Fit Plus and
Wii Sports Resort are still holding their own at 4th and 9th. Interestingly,
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games appears to have changed formats for the Top 10 - just a few weeks ago the Wii version was breaking in, now we’re seeing the DS one take spot #8.
All in all,
Layton aside, another somewhat glum week for game sales in Japan, although the upper half of the chart appears to be selling a bit healthier than last week, where positions 4 and under were barely breaking 30,000 units.
Figures are below. Chart position first, then game name, publisher, format and sales this week. Simple.
