More sales figures fighting talk from Nintendo as GBA breaks the million mark
Nintendo of America has again riled Sony Computer Entertainment by announcing that it has shifted over a million units of the Game Boy Advance through retail in the States. Nintendo claims that this makes the Advance the fastest selling console of all time.

“We knew demand was going to be strong - but this is a record-setting response,” said Peter Main, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Nintendo of America. “The good news is that we have been able to ship approximately another 500,000 units since the end of June with further product to become available through July and August.”

Sony was not impressed. “We sold 510,000 units in the first two days the system was in the market. That's based on our initial numbers," said Molly Smith, Sony Computer Entertainment America's Director of PR. "TRSTS represents 75 to 80% of the US market...not the entire market. At this point, the PS2 is the fastest selling system ever...and there is no system yet that could beat that, especially on a worldwide basis.”

Sony then followed this up, releasing the following statement, “While Nintendo must be commended for the sales of its machine, in reality the PlayStation 2 sold three times as fast when it was initially launched, and we could have sold as many as three times the amount we achieved had we anticipated the demand. Also worth pointing out is that the PlayStation 2 cannot really be compared with the Game Boy Advance, due to the different price brackets of the systems. The PlayStation 2 is a complete multimedia package, and costs four times as much; it's pointless even making a direct comparison...”

Agh! We don’t care! We are, however, impressed with Nintendo’s success in selling the little pocket gem. Well done fellas!
