With
Forza Motorsport 3 hitting store shelves this week, it makes sense for folk to be talking to Turn 10 about its latest work. Major Nelson did just that in his
latest podcast, speaking to the developer about the challenges and specifics of
Forza 3 development.
But it wasn't long before the focus turned to
Gran Turismo 5, its well-known rival in the racing simulator field. Game director Dan Greenawalt was asked by Major Nelson how he feels
Forza stacks up against Polyphony Digital's series.
"
Gran Turismo is a great game. It’s been a huge franchise, a huge part of many gamers kind of history of their gaming and I got a lot of respect for Kazunori Yamauchi and his whole team at Polyphony Digital”, begins Greenawalt, before dismissing comparisons with
GT5: Prologue for the fact that it's not a full game. He then compares the work ethic of Turn 10 and Polyphony, stating that their 'modern' approach is something the
GT creators just don't have.
“What I do know is that I think our visions, the vision of Kazunori and the vision that I have... are very similar. The execution is very different, we’ve got this commitment to this modern game design having the most cutting-edge physics, embracing UGC, embracing community, that I don’t think it is part of his vision, and it’s not meaning he’s lacking or not, it just means there’s a difference."
