Those of you waiting on Sony to deliver cross game chat in the PS3 won't have long now, as a Naughty Dog developer let the cat out of the bag and confirmed it for the console's next firmware update.
Addressing a question on
the US PlayStation forums about why players can spectate enemies when they die in
Uncharted 2's multiplayer mode, Naughty Dog member 'ReklissAbandon' commented on the fun that seeing enemy positions provides, before stating that cross-game chat will allow for all teams to communicate with one another anyway. The post has since been deleted, but here is the text we recovered;
"I think they wanted people to have fun and ejoy[sic] the show since all dead players can talk to each other no matter what team you are on. But I will suggest it [to the rest of the Naughty Dog team] anyway. Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies[sic] positions."
Really seems like Sony can't keep a lid on anything these days, but on the upside it's nice to know that whatever technical issues that apparently prevented cross game chat to happen have now been overcome.
Sony has previously stated that Firmware 3.0 is the last major update to arrive for the PS3 in 2009. No date of a future firmware patch has been announced.
