Activision Blizzard has spoken out about its pricing strategy - you know, the one that has
Modern Warfare 2 set to carry an RRP of £55. The one that ActiBlizz CEO
Bobby Kotick wishes featured games with higher prices. You won't be surprised to hear that ActiBlizz is OK with the pricing.
“At the end of the day, there is a spectrum of what people can afford and what people are prepared to spend. These things are key. Is what I am buying supplying me sufficient value for money and can I afford it? If so then I will buy it", Activision’s UK MD Andrew Brown told
MCV.
“This is an industry where things cost a lot to develop and it’s a risky business. We talk about building franchises; it is very expensive to do this from every respect. What we are finding is that for the right products, if you look at the time someone will spend playing something and compare it to something else, people are saying it’s worth it... I think there is a lot of controversy over I don’t know what.”
Development is pretty risky, thanks to the ever-increasing costs attached to it. We're not sure how much risk is attached to developing a game in one of the best-selling series in the industry, though.
