Send broken machines back to Nintendo

DSi Download Games are Bound to Single DSi
Here's a thing that will make owners of both the PSP Go (launching tomorrow remember folks... our local game emporium has one pre-order) and the DSi sit up and think.

Apparently, downloadable apps and games for the DSi cannot be transferred from one handheld console to the other. That's correct. Unlike cartridge-based buys that you can take over to your mate's house without fear of having your handheld nicked by rough-housing cornerboys on the way, the brave new world of digital now means no more swapsies.

If your handheld breaks? Send it back to the manufacturer and wait.

And if my console is stolen, presumably I can report it as such and it will no longer work with ANY game? That's a security feature I like, though it wil make buying second hand DSi's on eBay a minefield.

Not that that will bother eBay, which is trying to ditch second hand/used sales (it's entire raison d'etre) in favour of big box sale goods.

Apps and little 'casual' games that cost a few pounds are fine with me over download. If I paid £4 for a copy of Tetris or something on DSi I wouldn't be too fussed about selling it on. Even if I made my money back it wouldn't be worth the Ebay listing.

What I don't like, especially with the PSPGo (and MS Games on Demand) is the Monopoly. Sure, the high street has little competition these days, but supermarkets and online plays a part with the hard copies.

Digital distribution isn't all bad, I use iTunes but I like the fact that I can and have used Amazon and Play too.

Can I suggest you stand outside your local game store on release day and tell the one pre-release person about the error of their ways.
