It should come as no surprise to those who read our 7th September story Japan Goes Gaga for PS3 Slim that Media Create's official figures for hardware and software sales in Japan confirm the rise.
For the week August 31, 2009 - September 6, 2009, PS3 sales increased by a humungous 14494.52% compared to the previous week. A large and impressive figure. Now, unlike the UK where actual figures are near impossible to pin down, Media Create releases them. During the week in question, PS3 Slim launch week, the console sold 151,783 units. The previous week it sold 1,040.
This figure was supported by sales of 177,868 of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (Kidou Senshi Gundam Senki) - some of which were in the form of the PS3 Slim bundle.

Ok, going from 1000+ to 150.000+ is a huge rise, but you have to compare it to previous sales of the whole month, as the last week before the slim release the sales dropped anticipating the new Console.
VGchart (not really reliable, though) says 7-10k per week in japan.
Stil a 1500% rise.
Last week the sales in Japan were ~50k.

I believe with more upcoming ps3 deals, we will see a greater rise in the demand and hopefully increased sales for Sony.
