Aardman "12 Films Of Xmas" on Nintendo DSi
Nintendo today announced that it is teaming up with Aardman Studios (the home of Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit) to produce some unique animations in the run up to Christmas. The catch is that the studio will be using nothing but the free downloadable application, Flipnote Studio.

Those who have Nintendo DSi will already know of the fabulous pleasure that is Flipnote Studio, an application that allows you to create crude (and not-so-crude) animations with sound. You'll probably also know of the Flipnote Hatena website, where users can upload their animations for all to see (here's one of our favourites). It's this Hatena website where the Aardman animations will be published online.

One of Aardman's rising stars, Tim Ruffle, is the animator behind the twelve short productions with the first, called 'The Sandwich Twins' available on the 16th September. A new animation will be published on the Hatena website every week thereafter during the run up to Santa's gig. Quote time!

"I had a lot of fun making these. Flipnote is so simple to use that it’s easy to make short, fun animations – but there’s a surprising amount of features there too, meaning you can make your creations more complex as your confidence grows. Budding animators will find this a great way to get creative!"

Flipnote Studio has formed a bit of a cult following, particularly with some of us at SPOnG headquarters, so it's great to see some celebrity endorsement for the product. Now if you'll excuse us, there are more random Japanese animations we need to see...
