New 2D, HD Sonic the Hedgehog Game For 2010
To celebrate with the 10th Anniversary of the North American Sega Dreamcast release (9/9/09, fact fans), Sega has announced a brand new Sonic the Hedgehog game. Before you all kick the floor and start moaning, lift your chin, because this teaser invokes happy feelings!

Detailing nothing besides the fact that a 'new 2D adventure' is being 'built from the ground up' and being released in 2010, the trailer plays on a lot of nostalgic moments in Sonic history, from the ring-collecting bling to the wingtip logo that players saw when they first loaded their original Mega Drive games.

The teaser trailer can be viewed below; naturally you'll want to watch this several times over.

Gamespot spoke to Sega's Ken Ballough to discuss the project in more detail, and gave a little hint as to the thought processes behind the game:

"Old-school Sonic fans have long asked to see Sonic return to a more 2D style of gameplay. Many liked the daytime stages in Unleashed, but wanted to see a game that plays purely similar to the early games of the Genesis. Project Needlemouse is that critical first step that brings Sonic back to his 2D roots."

Valkyria Chronicles, the Yakuza series and now a promising Sonic game? Sega really do seem back on track.
