The release of
Brütal Legend can go ahead in October as planned. Activision and developer Double Fine have settled their legal dispute over ownership of the game out of court.
The
Los Angeles Times quotes Activision Blizzard spokeswoman, Maryanne Lataif, saying, "We have settled the lawsuit. However, the terms are confidential."
Activision sued Double Fine after it took
Brütal Legend to EA, following the game being
dropped in the Activision/Vivendi merger last year. Activision claimed it still had rights to the game. (When that suit was just a dark cloud on the horizon, an EA rep
likened such a move to "a husband abandoning his family and then suing after his wife meets a better looking guy." EA has a sense of humour!)
Double Fine then counter-sued, saying Activision was just trying to protect
Guitar Hero and vowing that its old flame would not kill
Brütal Legend.
Now, thankfully, we can all wash our hands of the whole sticky mess and get on with looking forward to the game.
