Escape adventure game Prisoner of War from UK veteran Codemasters seem to be shaping up nicely, according to the latest information released today.
The game is in development for PlayStation 2, PC and what was described as “other next generation platforms” by Codemasters, most likely to be Xbox.
Codemasters state that the game will feature a brand new AI concept known as the Artificial Life engine that will authentically create believable behaviour patterns for many of the prisoners.
“The A-Life algorithms developed for Prisoner Of War are more complex than anything we've seen on consoles before - only the power of next generation hardware makes this possible,” said Alastair Halsby, the Lead Designer of the game at Codemasters. “Our characters are autonomous agents. They sense many independent variables and come up with different, intelligent solutions to an ever-changing world, while reacting to each other as well. The end result for the player is the overwhelmingly immersive experience of being inside a dynamic and reactive environment with other characters that are keenly aware of you and your actions - essential for an escape adventure!”
The new engine will also be capable of playing the game for you. As you play, the game learns more about you and you behaviour. If you leave the game to go to the toilet or make a cup of tea, answer the door or whatever, it can take over your character and continue working on the escape task at hand.
Prisoner of War is due out later in the year.
