Mike Abary Sony’s senior vice president of Information Technology Products Division (the man who knows about Vaio) has been giving good interview. While speaking about the new Vaio range he's pushed to confirm that Xmas 2009 will see the laptops replete with PlayStation Network functionality.

"[Laughs.] You are going to see VAIO products that take advantage of already announced touch capabilities in Windows 7. You are also going to see more collaboration between the groups within Sony."

It appears that one thing blocking the arrival of PSN (outside the basic browser functionality) is actually getting to work with the PlayStation people:

"The PlayStation network is growing. We believe that network will have an option with VAIO PCs or any PCs for that matter. What we are trying to do is collaborate with our peers at PlayStation in that regard."

Once this mighty task is achieved, however, the PSN link will be about movies and music rather than games. Says Abary, "That (games) is a possibility but we are concentrated more on movies and TV content. We find casual gaming to be interesting for PCs and we are driving right now to establish our role in that area."

So, if Mike can get his people to speak to Kaz Hirai's people, there's an outside chance that some PSN functionality will appear on a Vaio. Until then it's back to your browsers.
