The latest episode of Sony's Qore would seem to have gone out early, confirming the existence of the PSP Go! in its wake.
The episode has Qore's Veronica Belmont chatting to Sony Computer Entertainment America's director of hardware, John Koller, about the device. He confirmed the specs as follows: 3.8 inch screen, 43% lighter, 16GB flash memory, blue tooth support and - the biggie - its content will be download-only - so "UMD goes away", as Koller noted. To support that strategy, users will be able to extend their storage capacities thanks to memory stick compatibility.
The system is a new version of the PSP hardware, not a full successor.
Koller also noted that new Metal Gear Solid is coming to the PSP. You might also notice a snatch of LittleBigPlanet shown on the PSP Go!'s diminutive screen.
As well as games, movies and TV will also be available to download.
So, will it replace the PSP 3000? "We're going to keep them both on the market", Koller said.
He expects that developers may change tack on PSP development in as much as they might opt to create games that are digestible in more bite-sized chunks. Initially, however, Koller doesn't expect to see much difference between the games available on each platform.
We could go on but, frankly, you can get the detail in the video below. The sound's not great, but it's there.
