It would seem that, despite having been released in 2007,
Call of Duty 4 has picked up around three million new users on the Xbox 360 this year.
“I mean,
Call of Duty 4 on Xbox Live just exploded. Right now we’re at 13 million unique users on 360 and that’s insane", said Robert Bowling, community manager for Infinity Ward when talking to Major Nelson.
Back in January, Infinity Ward
said that it had hit 10,006,606 unique
CoD4 users on the 360. So, using our mad maths skills, SPOnG's worked out that there have been roughly three million new users since then.
That's also the same number of 360 users of the game as copies sold in total,
according to Activision in its earnings call for the latest financial quarter ending in March. When you look at the number of copies sold and the number of gamers Infinity Ward's been able to clock using
CoD4, you can't help but notice that a huge great number of re-sales must have happened.
In January, there had been 4,381,276 unique users using
CoD4 multiplayer on the PS3 (single-player figures weren't given). Unsurprisingly, up-to-date PlayStation 3 numbers weren't given in Bowling's chat with the Microsoft mascot.
Modern Warfare 2's looking good so far, but those are some big numbers to live up to...
