Tomb Raider a success at the Box Office in spite of critical hammering
The Tomb Raider movie, starring Angelina Jolie, took an impressive $48 million in the US over the weekend, in what has been touted by the movie’s PR company as the most successful ever female-led action movie. This is also a record for a videogame-based film, with Tomb Raider easily taking more than Super Mario Bros, Mortal Kombat, Streetfighter and Double Dragon.

We do take issue at the success of the film being pinned onto Angelina Jolie, however. Surely the vast majority of the movie’s box office pull must go to the massive brand promotion and character development done by Eidos for Core’s flagship title.

Also, the movie was hammered by critics but, as usual, this didn’t stop moviegoers flocking to see Lara Croft reborn in celluloid.
