New Dev for BioShock 2 Multiplayer

Added mode takes players back to fall of Rapture

Take-Two has announced that the multiplayer in BioShock 2 won't be getting handled by 2K Marin - Digital Extremes has stepped in to lend a hand.

Since 2K's handing off development of BioShock 2's multiplayer, it might as well be to Digital Extremes picking up the reins, we reckon. As well as having worked on the likes of DarkSector and Unreal Tournament, the company handled the PS3 version of the single-player only BioShock.

Take-Two also outlined the multiplayer. The company tells us, "Multiplayer in BioShock 2 provides a rich prequel experience that expands the origins of the BioShock fiction. Set during the fall of Rapture, players assume the role of a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions, a premier provider of Plasmids and Tonics in the underwater city of Rapture that was first explored in the original BioShock.

"Players will need to use all the elements of the BioShock toolset to survive as the full depth of the BioShock experience is refined and transformed into a unique multiplayer experience that can only be found in Rapture."

The multiplayer ties into the single-player mode, enabling players to use experience points earned in the main game to purchase weapons, tonics and plasmids to refine their character for the multiplayer element.
